STYLES

In every style, the safety of our students is paramount. We include stretching and conditioning in every genre, as well as a strong technical base.

Classes are always optional to cater for both the professional dancer and those that just want to dance to have fun.

CLASSICAL

We teach the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet which is a well-respected syllabus taught world-wide and which enables students to develop a very strong technical base while achieving a beautiful artistry and exceptional musicality. The school offers two streams- external exams for those who wish to spend more time on their technique and present for international exams, and internal exams, where students present for a more casual test of their progress.

Classical ballet is the most detailed form of dance as it uses the whole body to create a most fluid line. It enhances all movement so that a natural deportment is obvious and other sporting activities are improved.

CONTEMPORARY

Originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, Contemporary has since come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance. Its popular amongst dancers as it allows for overlap in movement types and enables the student to really feel the emotion of their chosen music. An artistic combination of ballet techniques and naturalistic movements, contemporary dance style includes a lot of floor work and turn in of the legs.Image9cropped

Our classes focus on both the technical aspects of the style and the creative, with students given opportunities to create their own movement pieces.

MODERN/JAZZ

Many styles are incorporated into this section as this form of dance ‘goes with the fashion’. Everything from true modern style, musical comedy, hip-hop, funk, etc. is included, so that the student is trained in all genres. Whatever the style, teachers always make sure that the movement is safe for growing bodies.

HIPHOP & BREAKING

Breaking, also called B-boying or breakdancing, is a dynamic style of dance which developed as part of the hip hop culture. Breaking is one of the major elements of hip hop culture. Like many aspects of hip hop culture, breakdance borrows heavily from many cultures, including 1930s-era street dancing. Boys wanting to learn some fantastic tricks, this class is for you.

TAP

We follow the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus which is very modern and very challenging. This is a most enjoyable style where tap technique is pushed to the limit and students are given many opportunities to excel.

CHARACTER

This style shows classical ballet portraying a storyline or theme. Again, a strong technique is encouraged and a student’s dramatic quality is developed.

NATIONAL DANCE

The steps studied are relevant to the country being presented. Although still using a classical base, this dance style brings out the flavour of each part of the world and research into the differences between the countries.

SONG & DANCE

This can be in any style enabling students to use voice to present an entertaining item. Along with dance classes students are given vocal coaching on how to best perform their item and are taught important skills such as harmonies, pitch and projection.
